A Corrugated Board Film Lamination Machine is a specialized piece of post-press equipment used to bond a plastic film (like BOPP, PET, or PVC) onto the surface of corrugated sheets or cardboard. This process adds a protective layer and a high-quality finish, making the packaging waterproof, scratch-resistant, and visually premium.
1. Core Working PrinciplesThe machine works by feeding a corrugated board and a film roll simultaneously through a series of rollers. Depending on the film type, it uses one of two bonding methods:
Thermal (Hot) Lamination: The film comes with a pre-applied heat-sensitive adhesive. The machine’s heated rollers melt this adhesive to bond the film to the board.
Cold (Pressure) Lamination: Uses pressure-sensitive adhesive. This is ideal for heat-sensitive materials or simpler setups where a heating element is not desired.
Feeding Section: * Manual/Semi-Auto: Operators feed sheets by hand.
Fully Automatic: High-speed suction feeders (High Pile Feeders) handle large stacks of corrugated board.
Film Unwinding Station: A shaft that holds the lamination film roll, often equipped with tension control to prevent wrinkles.
Heating and Pressure Rollers: The "heart" of the machine. These are usually large-diameter steel or hard-chrome rollers. For corrugated boards, silicone rollers are often used to ensure the flutes (the zigzag inner part) aren't crushed during pressing.
Adhesive Coating Unit (for wet laminators): If the film isn't pre-glued, this unit applies a thin layer of water-based or solvent-based glue to the film.
Cutting & Separating System: A rotary blade or "flying knife" that separates the continuous film between sheets so they can be stacked individually.
Delivery/Stacker Unit: Collects the finished, laminated boards. High-end models include "Flip-Flop" stackers to keep boards flat and prevent warping.
