The vacuum feeding section is the first and one of the most critical parts of an automatic folder gluer machine. Its primary function is to separate, lift, and consistently feed one flat carton or corrugated box blank at a time from a stacked pile into the main machine body for folding and gluing.
Key Features and Mechanism
Vacuum Suction: The core of the system is the use of vacuum suction (often via specialized suction belts or cups). This suction holds the topmost blank securely against the feeding mechanism (usually a set of belts).
Controlled Separation: The suction ensures that only one blank is lifted and fed at a time, preventing "double feeds" which would jam the machine and disrupt production. This is especially effective for challenging materials like warped or slightly curved cardboard.
Feeding Belts: The blanks are typically transported by heavy-duty belt feeders which incorporate the vacuum control. These belts move the blank forward with high speed and precision.
Vibrating/Assisting Mechanisms: The feeder often includes a vibrating motor or elastic feeding knives/separators that help to gently yet effectively separate the stack of blanks before the vacuum takes over.
Alignment and Control:
Side Guides are used to correctly position the blank as it enters the main folder gluer.
The feeding drive system (often controlled by an electromagnetic clutch/brake and a dedicated motor with a variable speed drive) ensures the blank enters the next section (like pre-folding or alignment) at the correct speed and spacing.
Independent Control: The vacuum feeding section is often controlled independently of the main machine, allowing the operator to easily manage the feed rate and troubleshoot issues.
Precision and Accuracy: Provides highly accurate and consistent blank spacing and delivery, which is essential for the subsequent folding and gluing processes, particularly at high speeds (e.g., up to 150 sheets/min or more).
Reliability: Greatly reduces the risk of misfeeds or double feeds, leading to higher machine uptime and production efficiency.
Material Versatility: Highly effective for feeding various types and thicknesses of material, including corrugated boards (3-ply, 5-ply) and paperboard, even when the blanks are slightly warped.
In summary, the vacuum feeding system is a high-tech solution designed to transform a static pile of flat blanks into a steady, precisely controlled stream of material for the automated folding and gluing process.
